FAQ's

In addition to what is mentioned on the About page, we’re kind of crazy when it comes to sanitation. In our experience, we’ve groomed in no less than 8 salons, and while they might be good at sanitizing some things, we have always found that they lacked in others. It was never 100%. A lot of salons don’t hold their groomers accountable for sanitizing their own equipment. That’s a no-no here. We take sanitizing very serious. Even if you don’t utilize our services we fully encourage everyone to know about the level of sanitation at any salon they take their dog to.

Grooming live animals can be unpredictable so we do ask for your patience. We do our best to get dogs ready in 2.5 hours but sometimes it can take 3 or more depending on the size. A lot of the times we get tied up and fall behind when people don’t walk their dogs properly before their appts and we have to rebathe and dry a dog that ruined their haircut because they had to potty. Please walk your dog well before their appts 🙂 The time we schedule for your dog is for the groom only, and walking your dog is a major liability we will not take. This is another reason why we ask that you pick your dog up promptly to prevent these messes from happening. This is for the consideration of your dog and all the dogs we have to groom after your dog is done. If we all participate then we can make sure that when it’s your dogs turn to be groomed that we can focus 100% on your dog on their time! 😀

Dematting is uncomfortable for the dog and costly to you. For this reason we will recommend starting over and getting your dog on a schedule that works best with your lifestyle and desired look for your dog. We have had a lot of success with this and find that dogs who stay on a schedule come into the salon with little to  no anxiety because it’s part of their routine. Some of our doggy guests even lead us straight into the bath!

We do everything we possibly can to make our salon a parasite free facility. If you know that your dog has fleas or ticks you must take them to the vet for treatment as we do not want to risk spreading them to our other clients. If we find a flea or tick during their appointment and you were not aware they had them, we will treat it with a flea and tick shampoo at an extra charge. This is not optional because we cannot risk spreading parasites to other guests. We recommend you talk to your vet about keeping your dog on some kind of flea/tick preventative to avoid this.

Clipping a dirty coat dulls our equipment and will not give a good finish. This is why a bath is always included with the service.

Unfortunately we do not offer daycare. We have very limited space and all dogs must be picked up within an hour of when we contact you otherwise there will be an additional charge. Please allott the appropriate time for your appointment. Furthermore, walking your dog is a huge liability and for this reason we don’t walk them! Please consider that your dog is in a cage when their appointment is finished. Don’t make them hold it!

15 years!

The industry as a whole is discouraging groomers from plucking ears. While we understand some dogs are prone to ear infections from having densely haired ears that is not always the cause of ear infections. This is why any dog with reoccurring ear issues needs to have an ongoing relationship with their vet. For this reason we no longer pluck ears. If your dog needs ear plucking it’s best to have your vet take care of that.  As groomers, we cannot diagnose nor treat ear infections.

Similar to ear plucking, if your dog’s anal glands are causing issues this is something your vet must keep an eye on. When we express your dog’s glands, even though we are trained on how to do it externally, we don’t know, nor can we tell you what any of it means. It is our opinion that no groomer should be doing this. A gland is an internal organ and it’s not within our domain to do anything with those.

Occasionally we let dogs roam around the salon but only if they are within the same household. Our focus is on the dogs on our table and we will not be able to  supervise dogs who aren’t familiar with each other. For this reason we cage all the dogs. If this isn’t something you’re interested in, it is best to pick up your dog promptly when we call you. This is for their safety!

We cannot stress the importance on putting your dog on a regular grooming schedule. Dogs who see us regularly often walk right in all by themselves. We also find that some dog parents pass on their anxiety to their dogs. If you’re confident so too will be your dog! Don’t feed into the dog’s anxiety, it only makes it worse. As soon as you step away, the dog is calm because we are calm.
